oa ao co COUNCIL DEC 20 1982 MEMORANDUM Mr. B.R. Kirk, December 17th, 1982. City Administrator FROM: Building & Protection Committee SUBJECT: Wilson Avenue Sports Complex. RECOMMENDATION: That monies be allotted in 1983 budget to upgrade. the Wilson Avenue Complex to meet a minimum standard under the present code. The following conditions under the present code must be met before show functions are allowed in the complex. (ay Upgrade the integrity of the existing fire wall by installing fire rated doors where necessary. The failure of the fire wall, seperating the two ice arenas to meet the requirements of the National Building Code results in the total complex being classed as a single building. Taking the square footage into account, the National Building Code requires the complex to be sprinklered. The fire detection system be extended to cover the areas located under the Mabbett Room and in all work and storage areas located in the vicinity of the Mabbett Room. The two fire alarm systems be coupled together as one unit with an annunciator panel located near the front entrance of the complex. The fire department shall determine which events may be held. This determination will be based on the degree of fire~load involved. No car/truck/vehicle shows will be allowed in the complex unless the buildings are sprinklered. The upgrading of the fire wall and the fire alarm system, although not bringing the complex completely up to standard, would allow consideration of some show functions being allowed in the arena areas or the Mapbett Room LATE [TEM RE xh Foy ce
