The Coquitlam River project is complicated by the necessity to include both dyking and dam operations. Initially, a study must be done to determine the appropriate form of flood protection for all sections of the system. The actual design and construction of the system will commence upon the completion of the study. The current Provincial-Federal Agreement became effective October 10, 1985 and is scheduled to terminate March 31, 1995. The Coquitlam River project has been deemed viable and has consequently been included as one of the 11 projects to be undertaken through this Agreement. A suggested time frame is: commission the Initial Study of Operational Requirements in the near future; contract out the working drawings: and plans- 1 to 2 years; commence construction- 3 to 4 years. This is a rough estimate and is subject to change. AS per your direction, Alderman Laking will. address any further queries to Mac Clark of your Vancouver Branch. I trust that I have accuratly summarized our meeting. Please contact me should you feel there are any discrepancies.
