MAYOR AND COUNCIL LEISURE ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE RE: WESTWOOD PARK ETEM I The 1978 Park Budget includes a figure of $20,000 for the development of Westwood Park. A public meeting was held with the residents of the surrounding area to discuss the development of the park. Attached | please find the report on the public meeting. The revised park plan includes a cleaning up of the area as well as the upgrading of the existing trails. It is estimated that the cost for the park will be $12,000. , RECOMMENDATION The Leisure Activities Committee recommends the following: a) That no practice wall for tennis be built. b) That no adventure playground be built. ec) That the existing trails be upgraded. d) That partial development take place around the tennis courts. e) That the traffic problems be referred to the Public Works Committee. ITEM IT RE: SOCCER. FIELDS/SOFTBALL -DIAMCNDS In February, 1977, City Council adopted certain recommendations for park acreage and neighborhood recreation facilities. (Please see attached information). However since that time, the situation in. minor/adult soccer and minor/adult softball has changed quite consider- ably. A tremendous growth has taken place in both soccer and softball and we have experencied great difficulty in accommodating these groups in regard to field allocation.
