Re: City Vehicles Taken Home At the regular Council Meeting of November 22nd, 1976 Alderman Thompson requested a report on. "how many vehicles «+e. now go home with employees". The following reports on this request insofar as the Engineering Department is concerned. The City Administrator prepared a report dated October 15th, 1971 stating that six Engineering Department employees used City vehicles for City business during non~working hours for potential emergency purposes. At the Council Meeting of October 18th, 1971 the following resolution was proposed by Alderman Thompson and seconded by Alderman Heffelfinger "that as recom- mended in a report from the City Administrator the number of City vehicles in circulation during non-working hours be limited to use by the Maintenance Supervisor, the Public Works Foreman, the Waterworks Foreman, and the Sewer Assistant Foreman only and that any other employees required to be called out be paid mileage from their homes to the yards as required by the Union Contract with the present method of standby on weekends to be maintained". . This resolution was defeated by Council and presumably the policy that existed at that time was to continue. This matter was raised by Alderman Thompson again | in 1972. I am enclosing a report from the Public Works Committe dated May 25th, 1972. At the Council Meeting of May 29th, 1972 it was moved by Alderman Ranger and seconded by Alderman Laking "that the present policy of the Engineering Department relating to City vehicles being taken home by certain supervisory personnel as outiined in a report from the Public Works Committee, May 25th, 1972, be continued". This resolution was carried by Council. . At the present time City vehicles are taken home by the following Engineering Department personnel: City Engineer Works & Utilities Superintendent Parks Superintendent Public Works Foreman Waterworks Foreman Sewer Foreman. During weekends when a standby system is in effect an additional vehicle will be taken home if the employee on standby is not one of the above listed and if that employee lives within the City limits.
