Lee Theatre The Festival Concert Society is pleased to an- nounce a British Columbia tour by The Foestrovo Trio, a trio from Czechoslovakia consisting of violin, cello and piano, appearing at the R.E.M. Lee Theatre in: Terrace p.m. The Foestrovo Trio came into being in 1956 at the - Prague Academy of Music. ' After several highly suc- cessful years of musical activity, they were awarded astate grant for the study of chamber music at the Academy of Music. A short while later they were honoured to bear the name of Josef Bohuslav Foerster, the celebrated Czech composer. Since 1963, all: members of the trio have been working as freelance artists specializing in chamber music. They have worked with Czech radio and television and their records come out on the Supraphon label. In 1970, a change in the: Trio’s composition took place with a change of violinist. The Trio is now composed of: Ales Silek - piano, Stanislav Srp - violin (Pietro Guarneri 1712) and Vaclav Jirovec - cello (Andrea Guarneri 1689). _ on Saturday, . February 12, 1977 at 8:15. ot a They have toured Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Den- mark, England, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Sweden and Switzerland and were the resident ensemble at the Universidad de 10s Andes in Merida, Venezuela in 1969. The Foestrove Trio has chosen a_ program ‘which will include various pieces by Mozart, Martiou, Ravel and Schubert. The Foestrovo Trio will be touring British Columbia in the following communities: Kamloops, 100 Mile House, Williams’ Lake, Prince George, Burns Lake, Houston, Smithers, Terrace, ‘Kitimat, Prince Rupert, Vancouver and the Yukon Territories. These tours are sponsored by the Festival oneert Society and a special produced for the benefit of student audiences. In total, Festival Concert Society, ‘which sponsors the Young ‘People’s Concerts series, will provide over 400 con- certs and workshops in B.C. during the season of 1976-77. .
