Dear Members, well, we have been very busy compiling the catalogue, organizing the show and in initial preparation for something special at our last meeting in June. So far we have 117 people participating in the invitational part of cur show and 19 in the juried section--making a total of 136 people and nearly 400 pieces! I hope to see you at our next meeting to meet the long absent Nancy and that you will all come to the Ceramics '80 show two days later. Hiro NOTES TO MEMBERS: At the April meeting, the social hour was very busy and full. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves having good conversationa, browsing | through the library books and relishing the delicious cakes and breade brought by Eve Leacer, Lyla Young and Rita Rowbotham. Thanks, you three. Calories certainly can be fun! Algo, many of us were pleased to see Art and Johann Polberg there, and have the chance to visit with tham again. The displey of pots looked terrific. They were brought by Daniel Materna, Eve Leader, Rita Rowbotham, Lyle Young, Ronda Green and Corinne Kingma. During the business meeting, we welcomed some new members to the Guild, they were Barbara Stevenson, Salty Ballingal and John Springer. John, by the way,is our youngest member...he's 12 years oldi Jean Fahrni announced that the time of year for giving out the Guild incentive a- wards has arrived. Ruth Meechan hes presented the awards at Langera Collsge, and Georgina Hughes has presented them at Capilano College. The others will be given Out at six other colleges in the next few weeks. Corinne Kingma demonstrated the techniques shs uses in creating her bells, dolls and hanging plates. Oxidation fired to Cone 6, her colored clay, elips and stain- ing methods produce surprisingly clean, crisp colors. She uses many 'found' tools to achieve her varied textures; hendlies her clay confidently yet delicately, end prefers to work in a series, rather than finishing one piece et a time. Corinne commented that she loves to decorate, and it shows in her pieces. Q@nd her bells Teally do 'ring', with a clear, true tone.) The group enjoyed watching Eorimme work. Many thanks, Corinne. Our warm and glorious weether these days, is se reminder that our summer breek is almost here..-.and thet the Retrospective exhibition date is near. We still des- perately need sittere for 3 hour shifts to ‘guard' the pots et Robson Sq. It's a Pleasant job. . . just wandering around with a friend, looking et the display. Please call Joan Ritchie at 987-1252, and volunteer for a ahift. An exhibition as large in scope as Ceremice "80, cannot be mounted successfully without the aid and co-operation of many voluntesrea. (And....the tmpact of an exhibition such as this one does have sn effect on the growth of public awareness of our craft; our art. (Surely, 3 hours is not too much to ask?) Barbara THE GUILD NEEDS pictures and photographes for a wall college during our Retrospect shou. Photocopy of pictures of pots, people at work, studios, etc is good enough.
