The list ranges from motor oil to toxic chemicals, from battery acid to pesticides, and aerosols, Of particular concern are those wastes which remain in the en- vironment for extended periods, are long-lasting or lethal. Virtually all BCers are, to some degree, generators of hazardous wastes because every household generates a certain amount of hazardous waste, There are hazardous wastes under almost every sink, in every garage, basement, garden shed and bathroom cabinet. Most of this waste can be eliminated through the use of less harmful alternative pro- ducts. Householders can play a significant part in protecting the ting them into their garbagés.
