Fraser Valley Regional Library Board Response Public Library Legislation SECOND DRAFT A White Paper for Public Review -10- May 11, 1993 CONCLUSION The Board is very appreciative of this opportunity to respond to the proposed public library legislation. It has seen many positive points in the proposals but is also concerned about many others. It is opposed to the abandonment of the regional library district model, which in spite of many difficulties, has served the people of the province very well with economical library service. In the view of the Board, the changes affecting Public Library Associations are too weak and should be pro-active, rather than reactive if any real progress is to be made. In light of the very strong and welcome support of the Ministry for resource sharing among libraries, the Board is surprised that more has not been included in the Act to facilitate or encourage this goal. The Fraser Valley Regional Library Board expresses its thanks to the Minister and his staff for the diligent work that has gone into the developi::2nt of this white paper, and looks forward to participating in the public debate on these proposals and the passage of legislation through the House.
