Redirect some of the adult soccer games to the all weather field.

Comment: This is a very touchy area with all soccer leagues. At
this time it is unrealistic to schedule adult soccer
league games to the all weather field. We would have
"mini" revolution" on our hands. Bram is investigating
@ new concept in "all weather" fields which are being
constructed (or have been constructed) in Burnaby.
Apparently they have had great success with the "new"
all weather fields; these fields have a less abrasive
surface than the traditional all weather fields. A
‘report will be forthcoming to the Parks and Recreation
Committee for action.

Reinstate the concepts of “seasons" so that soccer is not played
twelve months per year.

comment: Again this is unrealistic. All soccer leagues in: the
lower mainland are now participating in summer soccer
leagues. Other municipalities have accommodated summer
soccer and, by default, Port Coquitlam has followed. suit.
For Council to initiate "seasons" for soccer would also
cause a "mini revolution".

-Improve communication regarding closure of the fields on weekends.

Comment: The Parks Superintendent and the Parks & Recreation

Director are investigating various alternatives to the
problem. We will attempt to set up some co-ordination
with the other municipalities. As well we are looking
at the possibility of having a tape recording made
available to the staff at one of the recreation centres
wne would put .on either a “fields open" or "fields
closed" tape - please note this is in the preliminary
stages.

HR. Educate team coaches, managers and players about need to “rest” turf
periodically - particularly during cold and wet weather when turf is

semi-dormant and unable to recover from heavy use.

‘Comment: At the field allocation meetings, the Parks Superintendent

will be attending. so that he can talk to the various
groups about some of the problems facing the Parks Depart-
ment. We will continue to have the Parks Superintendent
at these meetings on an annual basis as it gives an
opportunity for both ‘parties to fully discuss problems

and solutions.
