The Hawks were trying lo clear the puck when Randy Hodgins knocked it down at the blue line, Hodgins fed Levie in front but he was denied as Smata came up big. The rebound, however, went to the side and young Kelly McCabe made no mistake in giving the Cents a2 to 0 lead. The Hawks, using a floating winger all night, got on the scoreboard at the 16:50 mark. Cent goalie, Ray Prive, had just made a spectacular save on a breakaway by Hawk Don Kellar, when he was con- fronted with a two on one situation. Trevor Sandberg and Blake Walkanshaw broke in on [an Tennant. Sandberg drew Tennant over and passed to Walkanshaw who beat Prive low to the right hand corner. This goa] seemed to give the visitors a lift and they pressed for the tying goal. With five seconds remaining in the first frame Hawk captain, Greg. Egan, was left unmolested in frent of Prive. Sandberg fed him from behind the net and it’ was 2 to 2 after one.. . The second period started almost opposite to the first. Kitimat was carrying the play and Terrace was . having trouble coming out of their. own end. Constant Hawk forechecking paid off at the 5:38 mark when Dor Kellar let a blazing shot gc from tlie point which Prive just missed, the puck tip- pine off his glove into the gh corner. Five minutes iater the Cents recorded their third power play goal of the game __,_. with Levie putting the disc 3 past the Hawk netminder. The local squad was ap- plying pressure but fired wide four times before Levie got the puck at the point, stickhandled to the slot and ripped a shat which Smata could not handle. © It took the Hawks only three minutes to regain the lead‘as Don Kellar and Lee. Marleau combined to set up Greg Nickerson near the face-off circle. Nickerson let go a. slap shot which found its way into the net behind a screened Prive. At this point Coach Red L’Estrange felt a change in goalies necessary, hoping to get his team going. Mario Moretto, who came in from Prince Rupert ‘to try out for the Cents, replaced Prive. Moretto was called upon to make a couple of key saves almdst immediately and this gave the Cents a ~~ With just over a minute to go’ Levie picked up ‘his second goal of the night as he picked up a pass from _ Vern Sketchley and rifled it into an empty net. Hodgins had shot from the point with Sketchley in front. The big team captain then picked up the rebound and saw Levie in the open. The score after. two was four to four and the stage was set for a third period showdown. ' _ The big showdown never developed as both. teams began to rough it up and seemed content to fight. The first fight of the period didn't happen until nine minutes after play but it was obviously coming, Hodgins and Ken Fisher met behind the Hawk net, bumper, and - away they went. The ans were amazed as looks of disbelief were on many faces. The reason given was intent to injure but later it was found out that the in- fraction had been pulling the chin strap. The Luckies arrived late but came on strong in the !third and overtime riods, scoring on their irst extra time shot. The Houston squad took the lead early when, after one and a half minutes, Dennis Langdale was able to carry the puck down the ice unmolested. Langdale fired toward the net and the puck bounced off goalie Ray Prive's leg into the net. . Nine minutes later the Cents tied the game with Houston's Bob Leduc in the -penally box. The local boys carried the puck into the Lucky's zone and passed it around, waiting for the right - apportunity: It was defenceman Bud Langstrom who took the shot which eluded Gordie Cook in the Houston net. Carmon Brown had kept a loose puck in and passed to Rabbitt who saw Langstrom open. . Thig goal lifted the Cents and they began to press.
