He doesn’t believe the top-down style of management works these days, and Is looking for more parental participation and more feedback from staff. Also been involved with Boy Scouts and the Royal Ganadian Legion. Ron Town Statement: The field of educalion is important to me as a parent and a taxpayer. As a parent I expect our system of education to pre- parc our next generation to grow and prosper. Our system must meet the challenges fac- ing all of usin the 21st cen- tury and we must cope with our diversities. As a taxpayer, I expect good value for money spent on education. We need a con- sistent policy governing infrastructure and curriculum. As your Thornhill representative, [ would encour- age more parental involvement wilh our schools and | would commil to a regular session of communica- tion with the Thornhill parent! groups and school staff. Schoo! board amalgamation must be handled in a fair and equitable manner. We-cannot base our staff picks soley on severance agreements. PEGGY JULSETH Thornhill director Gary Turner has served as a school trustee for three years and is seeking a second term as trustee for Thornhill. Turner says his decision on whether to back Kitimat trustees’ plea for a clean administrative slate will depend on financial implications. “If someone can come up to tell me that we don't have to pay money for buy- out clauses in contracts, then f’m willing to look at anybody they want,” he said. “But if we have to pay these people out then the money has to come from the kids and I’m not agreeable with that one.” mi Age: 48 years. I was involved with construction of the new school in South Hazelton, the land exchange with the city, and ] was Thornhill Jr. Secondary. As liaison for Copper Mountain, Thormhill Elementary and Clarence Michiel schools, I have visited schools, attend- ed PAC meetings and other school events. | have been involved at Thornhill Primary and Thornhill Junior, and coach the Junior Boys Basketball team. I would like to see Thornhill Junior expand to include grades 11 and 12. [ will work toward encouraging parental involvement in schools and would like to work more closely with representa- tives of the regional district for the development of Thornhill fields.
