BACKGROUND: A report by the Ministry of Transportation and Highways on options for the rehabilitation of Lion's Gate Bridge and the improvement of the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) was forwarded to the City of Port Coquitlam by the Development Services and Transportation Committee of the GVRD. The Ministry's report compares advantages and disadvantages of configuring the Lion's Gate Bridge to accommodate three, four or five lanes of traffic. It further includes a brief outline of potential options for the expansion and improvement of Highway 1. The City has been requested by the Development Services and Transportation Committee to respond to the paper from a regional perspective and in light of selected policies identified by the GVRD's “Creating Our Future" program. The Committee has requested that comments be sent by February 12th, 1993. REGIONAL GROWTH OPTIONS AND POLICIES: Before any major expenditures for the upgrading and expansion of Lion's Gates Bridge and Highway 1 are made, the context of regional growth should be considered, as the relative importance of the bridge and highway will differ greatly depending on the direction that regional growth takes. -»-page 2 ITEM_{_ PAGE - F \19|
