Westpoint won top money by knocking off previously unbeaten Houston ’Sticks of the Forest’ in the windup doubie-knockout sec- tion. The Houston SF squad took home $800 as runnerup. Houston Deans won $450 for third place, while $350 went to Skeena A’s for placing fourth. As the consolation side, Terrace . Inn beat Red Sox 1-0 to win 3350. :- The Sox wound up with $200 for second. The series attracted 20 teams - which were placed into five, four- team divisions for round robin play. From there the top two advanced to the championship playoff while the bottom two went into consolation. Scores from these rounds can be found in this week’s scoreboard. Oldies’ soccer title goes to Greenville Greenville emerged with a three- win, one-loss record to capture top money of $750 at the annual Ter- race Oldtimers’ soccer tournament on June 15 weekend. Greenville outscored Kitamaat Village 5-3 in the final game. Earlier, Kitamaat had edged Green- ville 1-0 in their opening match. Kitamaat picked up $250 for the runnerup spot. Tom Wilkinson of Greenville was named most valuable player. The tournament high scorer was once again Richard Hugon of Terrace with a nine-goal effort. John Dewacht was named best. goalic. Other opening day matches saw | Terrace down Kitsegukla 5-3, Greenville winning by default over Aiyansh (failed to show up), and Terrace beating Kitwanga 5-1. Next day it was Kitamaat by default over Aiyansh and Kitse- gukla 6-0 over Kitwanga. In the semi finals, Greenville downed Terrace 5-3 and Kitamaat. knocked off Kitsegukla 6-2. Summer Games playoff over Kitimat in two one-sided contests. Terrace heads for Coquitlam for the Games at the end of July. On the Bantam boys’ side, Kiti- mat earned the Coquitlam trip on a 15-8, 23-15 triumph over Terrace. In the zone provincial playdown for Peewee girls, Smithers won the opener 12-9, Terrace took game two 15-8, By then it was raining too hard, so they cancelled game tnree until June 16 at Terrace. The home town girls dropped Smithers 22-11 in that contest and earned the right to play in Campbell River July 16. Also on June 9, Terrace and Prince Rupert Midgets played two games. Rupert won both by 13-6 and 24-8 scores, Baseball tourney one short What had been planned as a four-team minor baseball touma- ment on June 15 weekend, turned out to be three local teams minus Prince George. The interior crew pulled one of their famous last- minute dropouts to spoil grand | plans set up by the organizing Terrace Minor Baseball Associ- ~ ation. The disappointed crew went ahead with a four-game series featuring Credit Union, Video Stop and our Summer Games team. Video Stop downed Summer Games 9-2 to start, then il was Credit Union taking three in a row — 7-2 over Video, 13-2 over Summer Games and 10-2 over Video.
