FCM BOARD COSTS FOR THE B.C. COMMITTEE Current Memberships @ UBCM has 172 members in 8.C. representing 2.8 million population or 100% of Provincial population. FCM has 52 members in B.C. representing 2.1 millior: population or 75% of the total. Current Board Representation for B.C. = 7 in Total é Five members “at large": 6 Two representatives from the three largest municipalities (Vancouver, Burnaby and Surrey) [Group A]. . @ Three Elected from remaining FCM Board members in B.C. at the FCM annual meeting [Group B]. In addition: @ One appointed by UBCM. "Customary": one member on the Executive Board. Representation Costs Under the current system a Board member's cost to attend FCM meetings are borne by their municipality or in the case of the UBCM by UBCM. It is estimated on average that the travel and associated costs to attend an FCM Board meeting is a maximum of $1,000 per meeting per member. The total costs for B.C. “at large" representatives are estimated at: @ 5 members @ 3 meetings per year (not including the Annual Convention) @ @ $1,000 per member per meeting are equal to $15,000 in total or $6,000 fer the large municipality group [Group A] and $9,000 for the small municipality group {Group 8B]. This does not include B.C. representation on the FCM Executive, participation by other officials in FCM task forces, or UBCM and the occasional staff support from U8CM or members that is required at the meetings. OPTIONS FOR REDISTRIBUTING COSTS Suggestions were made that the costs of Board representation should not rest solely with the "sponsoring" municipality and should be spread amongst the greater membership.
