Mayor and Council April 20, 1979 3. Conferences I received requests for the following conferences: (1) B.C. Fire Chiefs Annual College - This conference will be held in Richmond May 6th to the 1Oth and the Fire Chief has requested authority to attend. Bill will be commuting daily so that expenses would be limited to the registration and perdiem costs for meals. L would recommend that Bill be authorized to attend and that his expenses be paid. Provincial Recreation Conference ~- There is a Provincial Recreation Conference planned for U.B.C. and this will run from May 10th to 13th. The Recreation Director has asked for authority to attend. The conference consists of a one day pre-conference seminar on regional recreation and sports and community recreation followed by three days of conference sessions on a variety of recreation topics. Janna Taylor has asked for permission to attend the seminar. She has also asked for authority to send Darlene Cross to the pre-conference seminar on Thursday, May 10th and to send Mike Reddington to the three days of general conference sessions. In the case of Darlene and Mike their expenses would be Limited to the registration cost and out cf pocket expense for meals as they would commute to the sessions, Registration fees would be $25.00 and $45.00 respectively. This is in accordance with our previous practice where conferences have been held in the Lower Mainland region and I recommend that approval be pranted. Marion Whaliey -— Superannuation Contribution A short time ago Council in Committee approved a contribution of $5,000. to the superannuation tund on behalf of. our employee Marion Whalley. This was approved on the basis that Mrs. Whalley had teen eligible for superannuation contributions but has never been enrolled, although she has been an employee for some twenty years. Council had approved contributions subject to it being to the employee's advantage and subject to the Superannuation Branch accepting this. I can now advise that such a contribution can be used to purchase past service benefits and preliminary arrangements have been made with the Superannuation Branch. Mrs. Whalley is prepared to contribute the matching amount. The Superannuation Branch require a resolution of Council requesting the purchase of the additional service end I would ask the Council to approve the purchase at this time. LDP ida
