However, your denturist is the most qualified person to tell you when dentures need replacing, An annual consultation to have your prosthesis’ checked and cleaned can prevent many problems, among them the bad habits that denture wearers develop and that require adjustments, a new base or reline or even complete replacement. The following are signs that your prosthesis needs allention: * ‘it does not adhere to your gums # as well as it used to oo * itis loose, docs not cut food well * makes your face look alder » causes discomfort or pain. Not to mention al} the other signs that only your denturist would notice. Your denturist constructs your prosthesis himself, the denturist aclually minimizes the impact of such changes. Thus, when replacement is indicated, your denturist makes sure your new dentures conform to the changes that your face has undergone over time. All new dentures require and adjustment period, which is entirely normal. Your denturist can give you tips an how to shorten this adjustment period and make ‘it easier. Remember that wearing dentures that are 10 or 15 years old inevitably causes changes in your mouth that are often irreversible, The longer you delay replacing your dentures, the more your appearance and your comfort will be affected,, often gradually and without really noticing. Since then a local committee has come forward asking that a day in early September be slotted as the city’s pride day, said Smith, ~The committee appears before the Prince Rupert council this month. ’ Burns Lake’s village council will also make its-decision this month, but there’s a twist, “We have received a request for a di- versity day,” said acting Burns Lake mayor Lyle Graham. The Lakes District Gay and Lesbian Association (GALA), wants a diversity day in September instead of a pride day o “celebrate all minority groups,” said Grahain. But he feels the association is focusing on celebrating gay pride. The village council in Burns Lake did conduct an informal poll, resulting in more than 600 responses. Of that number, only 14 people wanted a pride day de- clared. Houston and Smithers councils hold si- milar--policies -as- Prince: Rupert. — they won'l acl on any out of town proclama- tion requests. Smithers council tonight is expected to consider a request for a pride day from a local group called Out There. But a local pride committee hasn’t stepped forward yet in Houston. “We haven’t had to act on any pride request,” said Houston city administrator, Bill Beamish, Kitimat has a long-standing policy of not approving any proclamation requests. It simply posts all such requests on a “registry of observances”. Terrace's Rainbow Committee, for- mally the Terrace Tolerance Cammittee, made its request for a pride day last month, Council rejected the request and the commitiee is filing a human rights com- plaint against the city for sexual discrimi- nation, The committee is planning a polluck for all gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans- gendered residents on August 12.
