JUNE - JULY, 1977 THE WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER 7 Tals IN CRANBROOK UNION HOLDS SUCCESSFUL SPRING SAFETY CONFERENCE Delegates and professional figures combined for another successful Regional I.W.A. Conference on Safety and Health at a two-day work shop in Cranbrook, April 1-2. Following the pattern of spring educational seminars produced by the Regional Safety Council Officers, the program opened with a warm welcome from Wayne Nowlin, President of Cranbrook Host Local 1-405 and an adress by Regional Vice President Neil Menard who reported on projects now underway to introduce a program of in- dustrial occupational health research and education as a management condition within contractual guidelines. Delegates to the Conference participated in summary reports from the Regional and Local Directors of Safety and analyzed preventative proposals dealing with the problems arising during floor discussions as a result of the several subjects presented by chosen speakers. Regional Safety Director Max Salter delivered a presentation on the scope and hazards of industrial chemicals used for wood preservants.
