Rauhs Res Proposed amendment to Bylaw No. 2728 Commercial Indoor Recreational Use in the Mel General Industrial Zone I v@ad with interest the news article in the Tri-City News regarding the Fire Chief's objection ta 4 remoning request tao allow a new gymnastic facility to be opened in an industrial ar@a of Port Coquitlam. Tha emphasis an the gafaty of hundrads of childran spending time in an industrial area seems to have fallen an deaf ears. The Tri-City News on October 14, 1992 contained a natice of a Bylaw amendmant which contradicts the Fire Chiet’s concern for safaty at this propased lacation by propeasing an amendment which will allow gymnastic facilities, fitness cantras, mini-golf and other gimilar uses to now be permitted in any general industrial area in the City. While I appreciate the Department's concern with the safety of children in industrial areas, which is going to increase, I am algo concerned about the increase in taxes whith will occur as a raswlt of increasing fire protection in industrial arwas to account for the increase in number of people in the areas, increase in road use and activitias whieh will than became an evening and week-and concarn. Ags a tanayer and competing businass it is notable that Sport Northern, the proposed gymnastic schaol, run by Me Cathy Chapell ig directly associated with Northern Athletic, aretail equipment supplier, run by Mr. Shawn Chap@l) whe seans to be intent on obtaining a saning change to place the schmel inte an industrial area and then adjust the amendment to allow retail sale of equipment and acerssorias in the Same arQ@a. Yours truly, Taxpayer
