Parking could be accommodated on both the school site and the adjoining Hyde Creek recreational facility lands. §.2 Port Moody Area Port Moody reported that there was no suitable facility within the city limits that would accommodate 3,000 persons, not to mention the Parking of vehicles. ~ Oistrict of Coquitiam Area The Mundy Park. fence-enclosed and lighted senior playing field was proposed as a possible opening ceremonies site with the overflow parking being accommodated on the adjoining grass playing field surfaces, . Item 6 Ceremonies and Sanquets [t was noted that any one of the ice arenas in District #43 could serve as a major banquet or indoor ceremonies facility. Item 7 Major Athletic Venue Sites The meeting acknowledged the fact that "technically-rignt" major athletic venue sites figured prominently in the awarding of Summer Gamés-to any community. The meeting further acknowledged that the track and field facilities throughout District 443 would be tne subject of intense critical comment from the 8.C. Track and Field Association and competitors due to the abysmally inadequate condition of the running track surfaces and field event facilities. While this was viewed as a major impediment by the committee, it was not considered nearly aS inimical as the apparent lack of community support in the tri-municipalities for such a major athletic event. Still on the subject of major athletic venue sites, it was suggested that lawn Owling could perhaps take place in New Westminster and water-skiing off of Burnaby's Marine Park where spectator opportunities were reasonably good. .
