the general insurance com-
panies wrote, the more money
they lost.

The Anti-Inflation Board

faces the problem of reducing -

increases in ‘insurance prem-
iums while taking into consid-
eration alarming increases in
the costto companies.
A house which cost $30,000
to build in 1971, cost 546.000

surance companies - — lost hun-
dreds of millions of dollars un-
derwiiting. high-risk ventures
during 1974 and 1975, .
The property and casualty
instirance industry carried $330
millions worth of losses in

worth in-1975. These losses in- *

cluded the repair ' bills for cars
damaged in’ accidents,. and all
of us know that the prices of
automobile parts has skyrock-
eted. One survey shows thal
between January 1974 and
July 1975, the cost of auto
parts increased by 32 per cent
while labor increased by 30 per
cent.

raised their rates. to recoup
. their losses — auto insurance
rates went up last year by an
average of 30 per cent. This
year the larger automobite i in-
surance companies are gener-
ally holding their increases to
