local civic race

Alan Purschke, local
merchant . and. well-known
member of Lions Club In-
ternational announced today
that he will seek a seat on
council im the coming
election.

Purschke, a past governer
of the Lions, and this year's
district care chairman has
lived in Terrace for the past
15 years.

He and his wife came to
Terrace after investigating
various locations throughout
B.C, in which to establish
their own business.

"Ff don't like the cement
jungle known as the city, and

we were attracted to Terrace
because of the countryside
and the friendly people,”
Purschke said.

Although he has never held
elective municipal office
before, Purschke said,
“Terrace has been good to
us, and I would like to do
something in return.”

Purschke’s entry Into the
race means that there are
three challengers, Purschke,
Juanita Hatton and
Margaret Clarkson.

All three
Jolliffe, Bob Cooper and
David Pease have indicated
they intend to seek re-
election.

COUNCIL'S QUESTION

Terrace council attempted
toset a policy on how to set a
policy regarding automatic

company take over the
responsibility of towing

that the memo was only for
consideration, and that he
personally would be
reluctant - to

alderman Jolliffe. “In order
to implement this policy
would .we assume that
everyone knows the law?”

Suggestions as to which
vehicles should be towed
away included: inno parking
zone, in loading zone,
blocking driveway, in taxi
zone, impeding traffic flow,

double parked, too far fram

curb, on yellow curb; or too
close to: a fire hydrant,
crosswalk, traffic control
device, entrance or exit of
meeting place, or railway
crossing. Also to be included
would be vehicles parked on
a sidewalk or boulevard or
when parking is prohibited

Alderman Bob Cooper
objected strongly when it
was included in the report
that parking be prohibited on
all municipal streets bet-
ween 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.
