SUBJECT: Additional Vehicle -
Building Department.

RECOMMENDATION:

That Council authorize the purchase of an additional vehicle for the
Building Inspection Department with the approximate cost of $8,000
coming out of 1987 budget.

BACKGROUND & COMMENTS:

In 1986 we added an additional Inspector to the Building Department due
to increased volume in that area. As it appears that the volume of work
is not going to decrease, it is now time to supply a vehicle for this
additional staff. |

We had a vehicle on a short term lease basis up until Christmas when the
Chief Inspector took his vacation, now that he is back it is time to get
another vehicle for the department on a permanent basis.

We also considered leasing a vehicle which would over a three year period
work out to virtually the same cost as purchasing, however provided the
vehicle is kept for more than three years it is to our advantage to
purchase rather than lease. .

Approval is sought in advance of the budget to save three or four
months lease costs.
