Brown Director of Community Planning SUBJECT: Street Name Policy , f if RECOMMENDATION: That this report be used as a basis tor formulating poticy about naming streets. The proposed policy is in two parts: Firstly, that developers be permitted to select names for new streets in tneir subdivision, subject to the following conditions; -consideration shall be given to naming ° streets after tong time residents of the City -the streets to be named are not continuations of existing streets that are already named -the proposed names are not duplicates or sound the same as other street names in Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam -the proposed names are short and do not include prefixes or suffixes -the proposed names ara not slanderous, lewd or contain innuendo -the names shall foitow the context of other street names in the vicinity The second part of the policy is that the City reserve the right to name streets when the names proposed by developer are not in Keeping with part one above and for ai! arterial and collector streets and avenues. Comments: 1. This policy is being proposed to provide a framework within which City staff can expedite the street naming part of the development approval process. As the system presently operates, street names are apptied by a resolution of City Council following approval of a plan of subdiviston. Street naming is delayed until this point due to the potential tor changes to the road pattern during review of the application. A difficulty this raises is the developer is In a position to eoee/2
