Preservation of Channel

The natural stream bed adjacent to the structure shall not be disturbeg
except as called for on the drawings or as directed by the Engineer,

Material deposited within the stream area from foundation or other excavation
shall be removed and the stream area fread from obstruction.

Approach Fills

“The construction of the approach fills will be carried out by others.”

Availability of Site

It is anticipated that the site will be available for immediate bridge
construction purposes.

Compliance with the Fisheries Act

Environment Canada has imposed ¢ the following restrictions on construction.

(1) ALL work within the wetted perimeter of the Coquitlam River shall be
undertaken only during the period May Ist to September Ist of any year.

(2) Disturbance of natural streambanks shall be kept to an absolute minimum
and work shall be undertaken in a manner which will minimize the amount
of silt released into the stream.

' (3) .The natural configuration of the streambed within the normal high water
wetted perimeter of the stream, shall not be disturbed unléss it is ;
absolutely necessary for the construction of the bridge pier and abutments. |

(4) Gravel shall not be removed from within the high water wetted perimeter
of the Coquitlam River without obtaining prior approval from this office. .

Notwithstanding these restrictions, Environment Canada has agreed that the

Contractor may construct ‘an access from the east bank to the vicinity of -

the pier using imported material only. This access shall not exceed the >

height required to _provic e one foot freeboard to a flow of .150 cusec (daily
discharge).

Restoration of the channel to its original condition shall be as outlined
in these restrictions.

The Contractor shall advise the Federal Department of Fisheries and the
Provincial Department of Recreation and Conservation of his proposed operations
within the stream area and shall comply with all their requirements, particu-
larly Sections 20 and 30 of the Federal Fisheries Act. In addition; no
unnecessary rock, silt, cement grout, oil, grease, gasoline, scrap lumber

or other substances shall be placed in the stream during construction or

after completion and prior to final acceptance of the works by the Department.
