Mayor and Council DATE: December 30, 1974 Alderman E.W. Mabbe tt On a great number of occasions over the past years we have discussed the merits of speed bumps as a method of slowing down vehicles in hazardous areas. To this date we have not even given this method a trial. We have a serious situation in the lane on the west. side of Shaughnessy Street between Whyte Avenue and Elgin Avenue. This has been brought to the attention of the Works Committee by Reid's Department Store and I understand it is still unresolved.. This is where pedestrians step out of a store directly into the line of traffic. The same problem exists behind the Golden Ears Hotel, : I would move that speed bumps be installed in this section of lane between Whyte Avenue and Elgin Avenue in order to slow down traffic and give some added : protection to the pedestrians going to and from the parking areas. Respectfully submitted,. Alderman E.W. Mabbett.
