Laking: That. as recommended in a report: from the City Administrator, » February 8th, 1974: ~the Canadian Underwriters Association be requested to carry out a review of the City's fire defences at their convenience and provide the City with a copy of . their report, Carried. Alderman Keryluk voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, a a discussion ensued, and Alderman Keryluk pointed out that the prime responsibility of the Canadian Underwriters Asso- . ciation is to ) provide insurance conpanies with pertinent infornation - not the sel- ection of fire hall sites. Alderman Ranger commented that one way or another the City's fire defences : are now onder study, and stated. his view that the study by the C. U.A. should be reviewed before a report is made by the: Joint Fire Committee. Alderean Laking stated he agreed with the comments wade by Alderman Ranger. “Alder~ man Keryluk referred to the fact “that ¢ the ‘study by the Cc. u. A. would not be under- taken until the Fall of this year, and pointed out that a Fire Hall.on the North ‘side is needed now; however, Alderman Thompson commented that any time a report: such as the one proposed to be undertaken by the Cc. U. A. can be obtained: free of charge, it would very distinctly be to the City’ s advantage to take the ‘oppor tun- ity offered. Alderman Traboulay stated he -was in favour of the C.U, we report as there would be no cost attached and decause it would provide the independent. study he had requested. Alderman Nabbett stated he agreed with the study being under- taken, but that he- would lie to see “tt done a little sooner. The Fire Chief: ‘poin-~ ted out that ‘the Council had passed | a - resolution authorizing the District! s Fire Chie and himself to form a | Committee for the purpose of looking into’ possible ams algamation of fire services with ‘powers to add to the Committee: therefore, they had arranged with the om U. A. to undertake . study for ther on possible fire hall location, water needs, how the ecological area will affect the Fire Department in. getting fron one place to another, and | stated it. was felt at that time a full study on the city’ s equirenents, not just the North side, should ‘be made. The City Administrator stated it may be possible to request the Cc. U. A. to - hasten the study.
