Alderman Thompson further inquired as to the the cost of each of the townhouse units, and the developer advised they would be priced at about $50,000.00 each. Alderman Laking advised that the development would be set back about 100' from the highway and would be screened by a buffer of trees and berms. Alderman Traboulay commented that if the application is submitted to a Public Information Meeting, the problem of schools and of highways will arise again, and the Council will be in a much better position to make a decision on this particular development. j Plan. & Zon. R#9-76 u that Application R#9.-76 to rezone property located at the South-east corner of Prairie Avenue and Coast Meridian Road from RM-1 (Low-Density Apartinent Residential) to C-2 (Neighbourhood Commercial) be approved in principle with a public information meeting to be held thereon. It was noted in the report that the proposed development will. be a single level structure housing a supermarket and a number of retail stores and offices with parking to be provided based on the ratio of one car per 150 square feet; also, landscaping and screening along the perimeter. Alderman Traboulay suggested that approval of the development in principle be deleted from the recommendation, and to this members of Council generally agreed. Prior to passage of the foregoing proposed resolution, the City Planning Officer advised that the building area of the supermarket set forth in the report as 36,040 square feet should be corrected to read 26,040 square feet and this, combined with the building area of 21,750 square feet for retail, amounts to a total of 47,790 square feet. To Alderman Thompson's query, the City Planning Officer advised that the present square footage of the North side shopping centre is 72,000 and with the new development this would increase to about 120,000 square feet.
