CORPORATION OF THE CITI'F PORT COQVITLAM PARKS 6 RECREATION COMMITTEE A & meeting of the Parks & Recreation Committee was held in the Parks Recreation Office on February 25, 1991. ln attendance were Alderman Mike Thompson and Alderman Marg Gordon. Also in attendance was K. Jaune Taylor, Parks & Recreation Director. Item No. 1 Lower Mainland Parks & Recreation Chair 6 Directors The Committee received the invitation from the Municipality of Butmaby to attend a dinner meeting March 13, 1991. ~mm pgat~in Alderman Marg Gordon and Janna Taylor will attend. Carried Item No. 2 PoCo Tennis Club Proposal Commi.ttee reviewed the written proposal Recommendation That a letter be sent to them outlining the following points. 1. That presently a consultant has been hired to do a conceptual plan and working drawings for the active area at Reeves Park. Lights will be a part of this plan. Costing is being prepared for the overall plan, but the consultant will be asked for a separate cost on the lights. That the Committee does not support the concept of a clubhouse for the Tennis Club. The proposed field house in the plan will have meeting rooms which the Tennis Club can book as can any other user groups. Item No. 3 Fees & Charges Policy Recommendations: 1. invite PERC to do a workshop in May or June on the policy of fees and charges as it is To presented in the Master Plan. 2. Recommendation That the theme "The Nagic Continues" be approved by the Parks & Recreation Committee. Carried Tentative Schedule — 1991 Nay Day Festival The report from the Recreation Manager's reviewed. report was Recommendation That the tentative schedule be approved with the following adjustments: That there is not adult dane on the Saturday night. However, that consideration be given to providing another kind of entertainment for the adults. That Alderman Thompson approach the Nayor with the idea of inviting the PoCo School Trustee and the Chair of the Schoolboard to participate in the parade. 3. Consideration be given to having some kind of entertainment going on during the Nother's Day Breakfast. Carried Banners 6 Music 91 Questions in regard to banners and Music 91 were asked. The status of the banners is that the time line for them to be in place is May 1, 1991. Also the entertainment in regard to the Nusic 91 has not been confirmed as yet. Purpose/Problem: The purpose of this report 1s to prov1de the Parks D Recreation Committee w1th information regard1ng the operating/maintenance costs of'he spot11ghts being purchased by the Port Coquitlam Figure Skat1ng Club. Background In format i on: January B, 1991 meeting, the Parks and Recreation Comm1ttee reviewed a report regard1ng the proposed locations for the four new spotl1ghts. At that t1me, the Committee requested more 1nformation be obtained regard1ng the anticipated operat1ng/maintenance costs of these 11ghts. At Di scussion Staff researched the cost of operat1ng similar spotlights at the Coqu1tlam Sports Centre. Coquit 1am contracts a 11ght1ng technic1an to clean and check the spotl1ghts every two years. They do this because the1r spot 1 ights are twenty-six years old. The only other maintenance cost anticipated, at this time, would be the periodic replacement of a lamp (listed at $ 35.00 each).
