Weller, presently vice president of Lakeside University, Thunder Bay. Prof, Weller, a political scien- tist, is also recognized by his col- ‘leagues as a skilled. ad- ministrator with impressive academic credentials. He brings to his new position an extensive interest in the role of universities in the social, cultural and -economic development of north- | ern communities. ‘‘In ‘conversation with Pra- fessor Weller,’’ said Margaret Dediluke, the representative | from Terrace on the UNBC council, “I was particularly im- pressed with his knowledge of health-related subjects. Pro- fessor Weller has published and presented papers around the world on health policy, security and intelligence services.” Professor Weller was in- strumental in setting up the Association of Circumpolar Universities, which has just held its first conference, and it is ex- pected that he will bring these strong international connections to UNBC. : «“For UNBC to succeed,’’ said Bruce Strachan, Prince George MLA and Minister of Advanced Education, ’it cannot be a mini- mode! of UBC, SFU or UVic. It must have its own identity, its own role and its own unique way of being better than the others. “Geoffrey Weller has man- aged a university that has been innovative and that has had to deliver quality education over a large but sparsely populated area.” . Arena gets propane in swap for advertising. TERRACE — The city has accepted an offer from Premier Propane Inc. for 300 litres of free propane per month for the arena Zamboni ice re-surfacer. In exchange, Premier will be allowed to mount a 12-inch by 24-inch advertising decal on either side of the Zamboni. Premier Propane made the offer several months ago but city council felt the idea should be open to tender by all local propane outlets. Apparently none of the other propane companies liked the idea, however. None of them offered the city a better deal. 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. 1 Saturday
