Gooey Desserts

DEAR ABBY; I have just lost 20 pounds, which is
something I've been trying to do for years. However. a
problem has develaped. When I'm a dinner guest at some-
one's home and a gooey dessert is offered and J turn it down,
the hostess will loudly announce, “Oh, you and your diet!
You're so skinny. it wouldn't hurl you to put on a few
pounds!”

Of course, ail eyes are on me and [ never know whal ta do
or say. [don't like to make a big deal out af explaining that!
really don't want it (nobady would believe me anyway), $0 1
take it and eal it. and afterwards 1] could kick myself,

Is there a better way to handle this situation? I hate

scenes.

DEAR ABBY: My son (a sophomore in high schoollis get-
ting to be a very clever thief, We give him a generous
allowance and if he asked for anything extra, we would be
glad to give it to him, but he doesn’t ask, he just helps
himself. He doesn't need anything, He just steals for the
thrill of stealing. .

1 know he has been in my purse and stolen money, And I
have-seen him take money from his father's wallet. He has
stolen little things from his friends, and now 1 find that
he’s taken things fram the grocery store, drugstore and
ather places of business.

1 keep finding things in his room that [ know he didn't
buy. [ have even{threalened to take him to the police to
frighten him, but nothing helps. Am I raising a criminal?

DEAIt ABBY: [ have a friend whose company I enjoy im-
mensely and we see each other at least ance a week = but It
is always al MY house.

She has a lovely home and a housekeeper, so there is no
reason in the world why she can't invite me to her house
once ina while.

When I see her or talk to her on the phone, she always
says, "Do come over to see me sometime.” I don't consider
this a proper invitation. When I invite her to my home. I
telephone and ask her to come an a specific afternoon.

I don't want to offend her, but I would like her to know
that her “come over sometime” invitation doesn't sound
very sincere ta me.

How should this be handled? Or am 1 too touchy?
