The Local offi- cers report that despite this, several hundred were still =a wat ; ‘ a ee CONTINUED FROM PAGE 4 "M.B.P.R." were immediately faced with the problem of redréss to the worker concerned. All plant and camp com- mittees are faced with this great problem from time to time. The company’s attitude is © usually ‘only a few hours in- volved,’ and ‘only a few pen- nies are involved, why squawk?’ The process of redress in these cases is completely bogged down in the intermin- able process of arbitration, with the technical legalities outweighing the whole in- tent of industrial arbitration. No wonder the working stiffs down tools and walk off in frustration rather than having any prior design to force a company to terms. My own experience with this company has at times, been stormy to say the least. However, resorting to the ‘courts for vengeance will avail the company nothing. If retribution was not sought, then the suggestion that the boommen be found guilty to establish a princi- ple, establishes nothing but a ‘Vengeful attitude.’ Further than this the whole letter shouts out: ‘We were right, We were right, We were fair, We were fair.’ If this letter sent ot M.B. P.R. employees was intended to disinfect and whitewash the whole putrid mess, I can assure all readers that it has done nothing whatsoever to improve company - employee relations. F. LIEBERG. Another point I would like to make is the fact that at the time of the Loggers’ Ball, we invited two other couples, who are good friends of ours, to accompany us to this ‘dance.” I can only say it is most fortunate that they had previous commitments, as I’m afraid our name would now have such a reputation and label that we could never be happy living in our pres- ent community, where we are thought of as respectable citi- zens. I hesitate to sign my name to this letter in the event that perhaps one of my family or myself may suffer some un- happy consequences because of it. In closing I would like to add that any thought or ac- tion which would discourage this form of canvassing for prospective members would be appreciated. I am sure I am speaking for a great majority of wives and families in my position. Local President, Syd Thompson welcomed the IWA members and their families to this biggest IWA Christ- mas Party. In his address he stated that 1962 had been a good year for the Union and unemployment had not af- fected the woodworking in- dustry to any great degree. President Hartung in his address stated that the IWA International Convention would, for the first time in 10 years, be held in Vancouver, in October. 1 + 4 . , 4 er 4 ne-<] i & ¢ BIGGEST IWA CHRISTMAS PARTY.
