COMMUNICATIONS 17 The Napoléon Gareau award At its annual general assembly, the Fédération des francophones de la Colombie- Britannique (FFCB) highlighted the merit of all volunteers who contribute to the development, advancement and growth of the Francophone community through their activities and support. The Prix Napoléon Gareau was awarded this year to Ms. Doris Brisebois. She has always been an active and enthusiastic volunteer in the health sector, as well as in Maillardville’s Francophone community. Ms. Doris Brisebois is currently the Director of the Foyer Maillard, where she has worked for more than 22 years. She has also been President of RésoSanté Colombie-Britannique since 2007, and a member of the board of directors of Société Santé en francais since 2008. Report on the 65th General Meeting On June 4, 5, and 6, 2010, the Fédération des francophones de la Colombie- Britannique (FFCB) welcomed representatives from its 36 member associations and some special guests to its 65th annual general assembly. Members elected the FFCB’s next board of directors and it seized the opportunity to confirm Ms. Christine Sotteau as Executive Director. Ms. Sotteau had been the acting director since August 2009. The FFCB, in cooperation with Community partners, held a reception to honour Ms. Marie Bourgeois. She retired from the management of the Maison de la Francophonie de Vancouver in order to spend time volunteering for the Community. The reception was an opportunity to look at all the work carried out by Ms. Bourgeois during her professional career. A photo and video montage prepared by CBC/Radio Canada captured the highlights of her career and her community involvement. In the photo, the President of the FFCB, Dr. Réal Roy, presents a souvenir plaque to the recipient of the Prix Napoléon Gareau, Ms. Doris Brisebois. Scholarships and Public Speaking Competition The Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique (FFCB) presented a certificate of honour and a $1,000 bursary to Ms. Nicole Utulinde, a graduate of the Francophone program at Nanaimo District Secondary School, in recognition of her efforts at school and to encourage her to continue her post-secondary education in French. Each year, the FFCB also offers a $100 prize to a winner of the public speaking contest organized by Canadian Parents for French - BC & Yukon Branch. Reception partners.
