The 2009-2010 school year 2 marks the 30th anniversary of the British Columbia franco- phone parents’ movement and, more specifically, the 30th anniversary of the BC Francophone Parents Federation (FPFCB). Thirty years of dedication from parents who, like you, have not only contributed to their children's educa- tion in a multitude of ways but have also helped to create a vibrant school community in which the children can evolve. The FPFCB would therefore like to take this opportunity to say Thank You! Thank you for your presence during parents’ association meetings at your school or preschool. Whether you help prepare hot meals or the end-of-year barbecue, or donate your time fo or- ganize film evenings or fund-raising events, or take part in a class field trip, your contribution is noted and appre- ciated! It is with the commitment of parents who play an active role in par- ents’ association activities that we will create communities within which every child can develop in French. It’s Important to Try The FPFCB salutes all of the parents who accepted nominations for elec- tion as chair, treasurer, secretary or ad- ministrator on your parents’ association executive. You demonstrate that the parents’ movement is alive and well in British Columbia. We know that it’s a huge task and there are frequently too few volunteers. Your devotion is exem- plary. Your involvement in ensuring that your organization works efficiently goes a long way toward helping us reach our goals. Without you, the parents’ movement would be far less effective. Thanks to the many parents who are involved on the school partners’ com- mittees. Thanks for believing, righily, that by cooperating with all of ourcom- munity partners we can accomplish so much. Your desire to add your contri- bution to development of the school educational project demonstrates your atiachment to your school community. Together, we can build an academic, cultural, and community environment that promotes our children’s success in every endeavour. Thank You! We would also like to fhank all the of fam- ilies who elected to send their child to francophone school or preschool. non-francophone — parents Those parents know it’s the best way to ensure the “francicité” of their chil- dren... and the whole family. Thanks for your support with homework. We know it’s not always easy. Thanks for making the effort to welcome French into your home and your child's edu- cation. Merci for learning a few French words along the way! With more than 85% of our families being exogam- ous (one francophone and one non- francophone parent), the contribution of non-francophone parents is import- ant and should be celebrated. Yes, it counts! Every parent wants the best for his or her child, and each contributes in his or her own way to the vitality of the school community. Every bit counts. It is fhe sum of all of these small gestures that makes our community so strong. Imagine the total of all parents’ efforts across the province in just one year! Now imagine the total for thirty years of dedicated work by these parents! This results in successes such as preschool centres in some twenty regions, dy- namic francophone schools, a franco- phone school board to manage these schools across the province (yes...it’s thanks to the parents that the CSF was formed!), and children who are proud to call themselves as francophone! For all of your individual and group efforts, the FPFCB thanks you sincerely. Congratulations, parents for 30 years of devotion on behalf of the children! —
