* ” THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM ~2- ITEM II continued Option two would also supply the flashers as discussed for option one but would also replace the existing poles with combination signal and street light poles so that the crosswalk would be adequately _ illuminated at night. The existing poles could be utilized at the Mary Hill/Pitt River Road traffic signal ‘installation thereby saving some money. The crosswalk lighting could be either the standard mercury vapour light or a special high pressure sodium lighting to give a more yellow colour and stand out from the normal type of street lighting. The cost of this option would be about $2,500 allowing for the reuse of the existing poles. The Committee felt that the second option would provide a more useful solution in that it would help motorists to see pedestrians at night but did not make a recommendation in view of the difference in cost and the fact that there are other crosswalks which could be » . treated similarly, Funds for either solution are available from unall- ocated funds in the public works budget. ITEM III Re: One Hour Parking on Mary Hill Road The section of Mary Hill Road between McAllister and Wilson currently is restricted to six hour parking on both sides of the street. Since there is a new commercial building on the west side of the street, the use of the street for long term parkers would pre~ empt space that could be used by customers. The Committee recommends that the parking restrictions on the west Side of Mary Hill Road from Wilson to McAllister be. changed to one hour parking only. This is in keeping with what was done on the section of Mary Hill Road. between McAllister and Elgin. ITEM IV Re: Shaughnessy Street Watermain Our crews will be starting on the Shaughnessy Street watermain replacement next week. This will result in a considerable disruption of traffic. In order to keep two lanes of traffic moving it will be necessary to remove parking on both sides of the street for about one block at a time. Although we recognize that this will create some hardship for the merchants, the’ other alternative of detouring one lane of traffic away from Shaughnessy Street is less desirable. There will also be occasions where we will be using a set of portable traffic - Signals which we have borrowed from Fred West. If the use of these
