August 16th, 1976 From the City Administrator, August 13th, 1976, advising that three bids were received from tenders called for the supply of library furnishings and recommending that the purchase be divided between Western Shelving and Vancouver Office Interiors as the low-bidder, Western Shelving, was unable to quote on some of the other sections of furnishings. Moved by Alderman Keryluk: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That as recommended in a report from the City Administrator, August 13th, 1976, the tender for the supply of library furnishings be divided between Western Shelving and Vancouver Office Interiors, with the required items to be purchased within the $50,000.00 budget allotted therefor. Carried. From the City Administrator, August 13th, 1976, advising with Read-O-Graph sign fin. pass.& adoption respect to the Read-0-Graph sign located at Shaughnessy Street and Wilson Avenue, that in view of the continual problem with breakage, Sign-O-Lite has proposed to replace the Present faces with semi-unbreakable plastic and convert the screens to a hinged set-up so that they can be more easily manipulated from the ground; however, to do this the Company wants a 5-year renewal contract at a new rate of $60.00 per month (the old rate was $38.80 per month). The City Administrator further advised in his report that he had discussed the matter with the Recreation Committee, and as it was agreed renewal cannot be recommended on this basis, the Parks Department is investigating the construction of the City's own signs. Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Mabbett: That the contract with Sign-O-Lite for lease of the Read--O-Graph sign located at Shaughnessy Street and Wilson Avenue not be renewed and that Sign-O-Lite be requested to remove the said sign from that site. Carried. Alderman Ranger then suggested that three signs be built by the City and one installed at each of the following locations: 1. Wilson Avenue and Shaughnessy Street; 2. Laurler Avenue and.Coast Meridian Road; 3. Prairie Avenue and Regina Street, and it was agreed that this be referred to the Leisure Activities Committee for study and report back to Council.
