SOLID WASTE RECYCLING STUDY * At the vegular Council Meeting held on September llth, 1972 the following resolution was passed "That as recommended in a report from the City Engineer, September Sth, 1972 the Solid Waste Recycling Study prepazed so by W.R.E. Hickwan and Jens C. Jensen be vefexred to the Public Works Coimuitcee and Environmental Protection Sub-Committee for recommendation and report back to a forth coming Council Meating with Mr. Hickman to be in attendance to Son DSTO OSS formally present the Study and answer any questions." The Committee and Sub-Committee have met and discussed the Recycling tudy on several occasions and now submit the following comments and recon~ endations to the Council for consideration, (1) Copies of the Study be made available to the general public in accordance with the City's sale of documents policy. (2) Letters of thanks and appreciation be sent to the authors of the Report, W.R.E. Hickman and J.C.-Jensen, to Dr. R. Cameron and his collegues at U.3.C. and to the Pollution Concrol Board in Victoria. The 1973 Council consider applying the residential garbage pick- up standard (2 cans per week) to all commercial and industrial. establishments. This would mean that most if not all of these establishments would have to arrange their own private garbage pickup. One of the reasens for this recommendation is contained on page 6 ef the Report. Another reason is the fact that with- out a reduction in the volume of gaxbage now collected, the City will soon be faced with the purchase of an addition Garbage Packer Unit because of the continuing rapid residential growth in the City. Perhaps the most unique part of the report is the preparation and the results of the Reclamation Survey. Every effort should be made to implement some form of solid waste recycling as a vesult of the Zevourabie citizen response to the Reclamation Survey. continucd page 2. 4 Mt cial at cgay
