The AASF'S lone term goal is to have every stream "adopted." Our challenge is to motivate and educate thousands of "streamkeepers" who will become the stewards of our watersheds. To accomplish our goals, the AASF has: a ~ ~ ~ o e Conducted annual "Clean Water" teacher workshops resulting in more Ihan 20)KO students receiving a new environmental ethic. Conducted two international environmental education and stream restoration conferences lor educators, resource managers, and the public from around the Padgic Rim. published the book Adopting A St ra are, A ¹rthr vest Haudbsok, used by over e 000 individuals and groups'nationally andintemationagy. Co produced and distributed Adopting A Wetland A ¹rttuvrst Guide which serves a» a com. paruon to the Stream Handbook. Established partnerships with Japan's "Come Back Salmon Sodety and Canada's "Save Ihe Salmongodety" resulting inlheestabttshmentof"Sistergrkool"relasonshipsbetweenschools, and twointernationalconferences inlapan thatfocusedongeutngchildreninvolvedtntheenvironmenc Provided technical assistance to hundreds of gmups throughout the United Sutes. The AASF has developed what has often been discussed, but rarely achieved, a Public/Puvate paitnership that wiLI result in thousands of "streamkeepers" adapting streams. "Adopt-AStream" and "Streamkeeper Field Training" workshops were conducted for mare than 700 Washington State school and community leaders in 1991. During 1992 twelve more workshops are scheduled which will double the number of trained Stre amkeepers. A! so the AASF is developing a third publication to be released in 1992. A Strromkeepers Field Guide, Wafershrd inventory nnd Sirenm Monitoring Meihods will provide "standardized" inventory and monitoring procedures for school and community groups locally and nationwide. A complementary "Streamkeeper Video" will be produced as welL These tools will be used to expand the Streamkeeper movement already begun throughout Washington State and into new areas beginning in 1993. We hope that you will be co'me as excited about these projects as we are, and become partners with us in this movement to get our nation's stream "adopted."
