This is Nights Alive! Nights Alive is a program for the youth of Terrace, designed to promote opportunities to be involved in recrea- lional activities after schoo! hours. Nights Alive offers positive, alternative choices by in- valving teens, and now the pre-teens, in identifying, devel- oping and organizing their own activities, In the pasl these activities have ranged from. dances, to coffee-houses, to movie nights. Often, much of the organizing has been left to the youth themselves, including taising funds to be able to put on a dance and manning a snack-bar to get a little extra for future activities. The Nights Alive program has been running since Octo- ber 1997 and we are now into our second year. In this year we have expanded the program to include pre-teen ac- tivities at ET Kenney Primary school, Nights Alive is a communily based, crime-prevention program that is, in part, sponsored by the Ministry of the Atiomey General. When I say "in part", programs like this are only success- ful with the help of the community at large, To be success- ful requires the support of businesses in town, volunteers from the community and sponsors to ensure we can carry on with and develop long-term programs. We will use this column to let everyone know what is happening with Nights Alive, what our future plans are {this year’s theme is crime-prevention programs) and how you can help us with our plans. You will also hear from the youth of Terrace through this column and find out first- hand what they see as concerns and hopes for the future. If you are interested in finding out more about Terrace Nights Alive or feel you would like to help us in any way, drop us a Jine at the address below.
