Bornite Mountain is a Ministry of Forests recrea- tional trail. It starts just past the 4 km mark on the Kleanza Creek logging road, 7 An older logging road winds up the west-facing - side of the mountain for 45 minutes before ending at an old landing stage. Last year, club mem- bers helped to brush out the approaches to the trail and lugged lumber up to the trailhead, “There is 2 creek about half and hour up the trail that needs to be bridged,” said club member Rob McDonald, “Plus a muddy spot just past that could use some help.” Rob Hart, who’s orga- nizing the event along with McDonald, said there are many rewards along the trail. “This hike takes you The club wants to build a bridge and tackle a muddy spot. through some of the pret- tiest old growth forest that’s easily accessible to hikers. The logging road ends at a breathtaking view back down the Skee- na towards Terrace and from there it’s only an hour and a half hike to the tree line and “into alpine country.” Anyone volunteering for the work party will be re- warded in other ways, too. “This time there will also be hot soup,” joked McDonald. “Renee Syvret will be setting up at the trailhead to feed the those carrying the lumber to the creek. “That will be welcome because there may well be a little saow at that eleva- tion by the end of the month.” Anyone wanting to vo- Tunteer is welcome. “This will be the high- est soup kitchen in the :valley,” McDonald said. “Certainly the one with Clas oa THE VIEW from the trail head at Bornite Mountain. Ella came from a fami- ly of 11 children: Evelyn, Toni, Queenie, Edith, Jo- sephine, Viola, Francis, Phyliss, Lorraine, Eylmer. Ella’s father, Joseph Lo- feudo, ran away from home in Italy when he was 17. He came ta Canada after spending some time in the U.S. He lost his first wife and daughter Margaret, to Influenza. So Joseph was left alone with their other daughter Evelyn. Some time later, Joseph brought over an Italian mail order bride, Con- stance. They were matried in Montreal, then travelled acrass Canada, finally set- tling in the Fort Fraser area of B.C, Joseph worked as a sec- tion foreman for the CNR. Tace, walking to the old Kalum school. As a young girl, Ella worked very hard. She would help her mother with the housework and helped her father milking cows and other chores. Anyone visiting ‘Ella would know that she was a clean and hardworking lady. Her home always shone and was Spotless. She was always happy when friends dropped in for a visit and she always made you feel so very welcomed and special. Later, Ella met the love of her fife, a handsome young fellow by the name of Eric Turner. They knew each other as children, and after courting awhile, they fell in love and with the blessing of her father, whose only demand was for a roof over their heads. They were married on Feb. 12, 1943, at Eric’s parent’s home, They moved into their home at 4657 Park Ave., where Ella lived for 58 years, until just before her death. Three months after they were married, Eric joined the army. Then it was one year and three months later that Eric was shipped overseas, leaving Ella be- hind for four years. Ella was a loving and loyal wife. She patiently waited and prayed that Eric would return. And he did. He was one of the lucky ones. Over the years, Ella worked for Jimmy Wong in the restaurant, the Blue Ribbon Bakery, for Bert Goulet’s grocery, and at the Slumber Lodge for 15 years, Ella had also worked for John and Hilda Smaha in the laundry. Ella was an active member of the Order of the Royal Purpie and later the Happy Gang Centre. Eric and Ella raised two children, Linda and Gary. This was Ella’s life — her family was very important to hez, Now, as Linda and Gary look back, ihey have many fond and beautiful memer- ics of farnily outings. Both Linda and. Gary came to Eric and Ella in a very special Way. -Ella, being the kind and loving person she was, was. bles- sed ta raise these twa children. The story shared with me, on how Gary came to the family, was one day, while Ella was downtown, - she met a lady with a baby in a baby carriage. Ella stopped to chat for a while, and as she admired the baby, the lady said, “He's up for adoption.” - And without 4 minute of hesitation, Ella replied, “I'l! take him.” And she did. Eric and Ella were very loyal to each other. They spent many family outings at Lakelse Lake. Eric had a boat they named Lingar- all after Linda, Gary and Ella. , Linda and Gary remem- ber many family weekends spent at the cabin. Ella has Isft behind many memories. We all remember. her. as a very beautiful and kind lady. She will be missed by her family and her long time neighbour, Helen Gibbs. Ella’s funeral service was held July 27° at St. Matthews Anglican Church, with Rev. Dean Houghton officiating. Tammy Gibbs played the music. And Rob Brin- son sang “Filling me up with Love”, a song that he’ wrote. The reception was held at Ella’s home. Many felt it was very appropriate, because her door was al- ways open for friends to drop in for coffee or just to come in and have a chat.
