Festival of Sports Stoek Car Championships were held last weekend al the Terrace Speedway and two Terrace drivers emerged victorious. The A Class Champion is Dexter Archibald who piloted car No.9 sponsored by Millers’s Men's Wear and One Hour Cleaninizing. In the B Class Gary Kerr beat out the field in Daves Plumbing and Healing entry to become the provincial champ. The meet was a (wo-day affair featuring drivers from throughout the province vying for the top honors, Saturday night's first race saw No.54 Don Norstram lake the A dash and Ken Stewart take the B dash in car no. 37, Ken Stewart added another victory in the B Heat when he heal oul Garry Kerr. In the A Heat, Marty Cox recouped an earlier defeal to take the event in car No.89. Car 39 came up the winner in the B main with Lorne Burkett crossing the finish line first. In the A Main, Blake Cyr drove car No.8 to victory. Cyr also registered the day's record in the time trials hy taking the oval in 21.8 seconds. The fastest time on Sunday also went lo Cvr who shaved .7 seconds off his previous time. -selting the record at 21.1 seconds. The A dash, the first race on Sunday, saw Blake Cyr pick up his second viclory of the meet. In the B event of the same class Gary Kerr took the honors, Chuck Byrd piloted ear 44 to the finish line in first place in the A Heal. In the A:B. Heat Ken Stewart again scored a win, his third of the two-day meet, Dexter Archibald came through with his first win of the racing schedule when he heal oul Chuck Byrd in the A Main. Archibald piloted car No. 9 ta the finish line. Gary Kerr finished in the lead spol for the second time on Sunday when he took the B Main. Bill Harrison drove car 17 to the pole first for a win in the mechanics race in the B event while Wayne Lavally piloted 48 in the A class of the evenl for the victory. Bennett announces winter sports festival British Columbia Premier W.A.C. Bennell announced late last week the first annual Festival of Winter Sports will be held December 1-12 this year. The festival will follow Grey Cup festivities in Vancouver and precede the Christmas holiday season. The announcement, which followed close on the heels of the completion of the second successful festival of Sports, was made shortly afler a request from (he premier to the Festival of Sports Committee for such a sports event.
