The primary sport resulting in overuse of the fields is soccer. Modifying these use patterns js a key weed prevention tactic. 1. Redirect some of the soccer league games to school district fields which appear to be under-utilized. 2. Redirect some of the adult soccer games to the all-weather field. Objections to playing on this field seem to center around the roughness of the field surface on the skin of players. To overcome this objection, it is reconmended that vegetation (including “weeds”) be encouraged to grow on the rock surface to soften it. Park superintendent Hoogendoorn has observed that grasses and other plants appear able to grow in the rock substrate without assistance. It is his suggestion that these plants be encouraged in hopes that more players will agree to schedule games at this location.
