THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM - 3 = ‘It is proposed that the gravel be excavated and that the resulting hole be used to bury the stumps and other large debris which is in the dump prior to backfilling the hole and levelling off the remainder of the dump area. During the “excavation there would be no direct drainage allowed to the Coquitlam River so that there would be no silting of the river. It is anticipated that any water which might gather in the hole during excavation would drain through the porous bottom. rhe Committee recommends that we allow Ralston to remove approximately 6,000 cubic yards of gravel from the site in exchange for levelling of the area and that he be required to pay the royalty for soil removal. ITEM III Re: Ditch Behind Stella Place = 0s ; A letter from Pat Whalley to Alderman Ranger.:was considered by the Committee. The letter complained of stagnant water in the ditch behind Stella’Place. [It was suggested that - the problem was that the ditch had been excavated below the level of the culverts and therefore water was not draining. On inspection, it appears that the main reason for water standing in that this section of ditch is almost level. Because it is almost level and the volume of water in the ditch is very small, algea and other growth appears very quickly in the ditch bottom and this further restricts flow. Building up. the bottom of the ditch would be a very temporary solution to the problem since the growth would necessitate cleaning again in a short time. _' The Committee recommends that we do not do any work on the ditch in this lané as it is a Shallow ditch and would ‘be a very low priority and since we have already spent $35,000.00 out of the $39,000.00 in the budget for ditch cleaning for this year, Respectfully submitted, of térsy-b.
