RECOMMENDATION: That the City of Port Coquitlam urge the Ministry of Health to expedite the opening of Emergency Facilities at the Eagle Ridge Hospital. BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: Members of Council have now received the Strategic Planning | F Discussion paper and update which Mayor L. Traboulay, Alderman Farnworth and | received at our breakfast meeting with the Senior Staff of Eagle Ridge Hospital. . ‘ At this meeting we were advised that the number of emergency patients which utilize Royal Columbian Hospital from the Schoo! District #43 catchment area are more than sufficient to justify the opening of the Emergency Services at Eagle Ridge Hospital. The opening of Emergency Services at Eagle Ridge Hospital is the Same position as that taken by the Fraser Burrard Hospital society's Strategic Planning Update of August 1986. This update . also recommends that the cardiclogy program be transferred to the Eagle Ridge Hospital from Roya! Columbian Hospital. lt is understood that a decision regarding the timing of the opening of Emergency Services at Eagle Ridge Hospital is imminent and that a demonstration of support by City Council would be timely and in the best interests of the community. , Alderater MR.
