June 7. 1993/176 A regular meeting of the Municipal Council ot the Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam was held in the Council Chambers, Port Coquitlam City Hall, 2580 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, BC on Monday, June 7th, 1993, at 7:30 p.m. Mayor L.M. Traboulay and Councillors M.D. Gates, M.J. Gordon, J.J. Keryluk, and R.H. Talbot were in attendance. Also in attendance were City Administrator B.R. Kirk, City Clerk S. Rauh, City Treasurer/Deputy Administrator J.G.S. Maitland, City Engineer I.R. Zahynacz, Director of Planning C.R. Felip, Director of Building Permits and Inspections J.D. Shardlow, and Fire Chief J. Baillie. Carried, PROCLAMATIONS: Recognizing that the oceans, the wellspring of all life, nurture and provide a living environment for all species; Whereas the survival of all species and the planet are inextricably intertwined with the health of ocean ecosystems; Whereas the combined consequences of human induced environmental degradation and overexploitation poses the greatest threat to the biological diversity and integrity of the seas; And Whereas Canada, a maritime nation bordered by three oceans, has taken a prominent role towards involving citizens anc’ intergovernmental commissions in strategies to protect, enhance, and restore our ocean environment, Now therefore I, Leonard M. Traboulay, Mayor of the Corporation of The City of Port Coquitlam, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM Tuesday, June 8th, 1993 as “OCEANS DAY” in the City of Port Coquitlam and mandate that the United Nations flag be flown in our municipality. In doing so, I call upon the residents of our municipality to celebrate the importance and vitality of the oceans; and to act now by committing to being more active in efforts to protect our ocean environment.
