N.E. Sector Study
Authority to retain consultants

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT City Council authorize staff to retain the firms of Urban Systems and
Stevenson Kellogg to assist in preparation of a comprehensive development
plan for the North East Sector

AND THAT monies from the Planning Grant be used to pay for the consultants
and engineering department staff time.

COMMENTS :

This project was proposed to be carried out in 1988. Due to heavy work loads
processing applications for development approval, ‘the project was not
started. Approval to carry out the project this year is being requested. The
Ministry of Municipal Affairs have extended a grant to the City for this
project. The grant expires the end of this year.

Most of the staff time for carrying out work on this project will be in the
Engineering Department. Due to that, the Planning Department are proposing
that the planning grant, $15,000 be added to the Engineering Department
budget. Monies for this project are contained within the preliminary budget.
Council direction is requested with regard to waiting for final budget
approval in mid May or giving pre budget approval.
