May 2- June 4 Silk Road Asian Inflaences in BC Pottery Opening Thursday May 2 6:00-8;00PM This exhibition was one year in the mak- ing. It started as an idea to celebrate Asian Heritage Month, and then it was decided to pul together a clay exhibition that ex- plored the use of Asian ceramic tech- niques and motifs among Bntish Colum- bia potters, Almost a hundred submissions were received and all the pieces were of hich artistic quality and craftsmanship, The plate by Wendy Brooks is indicative of hakeme with it strong brushwork bringing vibrancy to her piece. The wood- fired works by Jinny Whitehead and Hsaio- Chen Peng take us back to a time before electncity and gas were used as a fuel to fire kilns. May Leang Serniwa!l Parsope Onibe is the wse of green glaze or pereen glaze in combination with iron brushwork that was developed and revered in Japan about 200 years ago. Junichi Tanaka and Sandy Lum have both used the concept of Orie in a modern and imeresting way. The Greenbam Award has been awarded to May Leung of Kamloops for her work Spiritual Passage. She created asculpure using the image of Buddha as # bridge. With all the violence that has gone on throughout the world this year, her sculp- ture is a timely reminder of non-violence and the need for spirtuality.
