For Walter and Dorothy Baranieski Farewell party held by Jim Le Cleir Terrace Elks Ledge member TERRACE — A farewell party was held at the Elks Lodge recent- ly for Walter and Dorothy Baranieski who are leaving the area and moving to Clearbrook. Dorothy was born in Prince Rupert in 1929, She has resided here since then. Dorothy became a member of the Order of the Royal Pur- ple (OORP) for 15 years. The order of OORP of Terrace was formed in 1958. Walter, born in Melford, Sask. lived there until he joined the Canadian Army. He was stationed in Terrace in 1942 before going overseas. Following the war Walter thought Ter- race would be one of the best places to live. He returned and married Dorothy and they have lived here ever since. Walter is one of the founders of the Elks in Terrace. The organiza- tion was formed in 1957. He is a charter member of the Elks Lodge and will be missed by all. Money was also raised from a bake sale con- ducted by Terrace Regional Museum Socie- ty representatives. Local resident Ron Lennon was asked to build and front windows and a front door for the heritage log building. Kerby said a volunteer has been commissioned to install three other win- dows in the building. Restoration work still re- quired includes the chinking of outside walls on the log structure. A lean-to at the back door of the building also needs repairs, Kerby said. Council report The District of Terrace animal shelter reports that February was a quiet month. A summary given to Terrace council on March 10 indicates three cats were killed on Ter- race streets and one dog was injured. Three notices of violation were handed out and two court cases occurred. The report stated that there is an escalating problem with dogs ripp- ing up garbage bags in residential areas.
