E.R. HALLSOR, ADMINISTRATOR DISTRICT OF TERRACE No, 5 - 3215 Eby Street ji TERRACE, B.C. V8G 2X6 Pension fund buys B.C. Tel stock VICTORIA (CP) — Premier Bill Bennett said today he doesn’t agree with Finance Minister Evan Wolfe’s decision to use the government's public service superannuation fund to buy an additional block of or- dinary shares of the British Columbia Telephone Co, Bennett told reporters that if the decision had been up to him, he wouldn't have made the purchase. He said if he was running the pension fund he probably would not deal with common stock, but would prefer more secure investments. Wolfe said in Vancouver on Wednesday that the fund picked up 200,391 ordinary shares under a June 9 rights offering to B.C. Tel shareholders. The total number of B.C, Tel shares held by the government now is 1.2 million. Wolfe sald the purchase, authorized by cabinet, was made on a recommendation by the pension fund in- yestment committee ‘‘to enhance investments in B.C, Tel already held by the superannuation fund.” WOLFE'S DECISION Harry Turner, deputy commissioner of the superannuation branch, said today, however, that the power to make decisions on such investments resta with stlely with Wolfe. Wolfe said the purchase was made because “it was Construction The successful | contract.
