A coat of arms and the associated flag serve important functional and
ceremonial purposes and can be a source of civic pride and a historic and
dignifled reflection of the importance of this community in the region and the
province,

The total cost is a maximum of $3,500. The themes contained in our current
emblem can be carried over into the new arms. The application of the new
symbol, is controlled by Council and is undertaken according to a plan which is
economically and administratively sensible. Old stocka of letterhead, for
instance, are used up before new stocks are ordered. The old emblem which
remaing aa part of Port Coqutilam's heritage can be left in place as a fixed
decorative element in certain locations until resources are available to make
a change.
