THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM -2- In the past, we had the use of a Guard Dog Service, however they are no longer available as they do not supply personnel to handle the dogs. This was an extremely effective method of security as the teenagers would immediately vacate the Recreation Centre area. What we try and do is to clear the parking lot as quickly as possible after the Teen Disco and encourage the teenagers to go home immediately. However, again this is very difficult to do as we have no guarantee that they are going home. We are extremely adamant as to the security at our dances, and have always had the police present during our Teen Discos, both in the dance and outside the building on patrol, however no matter how hard you try and patrol the outside area you occasionally will have problems. Once the teenagers have entered our dance, they are not allowed to leave the building and re-enter without paying an additional admission charge. One of the points Council should be aware of is that when our teens come to our Teen Disco Dances, often times they have already had a bit to drink and rather than turn them away, we encourage them to come into the Teen Disco and naturally we frisk them so that we are satisfied in knowing that they have no alcohol on them. We would prefer to have these teenagers at the Teen Disco rather than out on the streets drinking. My major thought is that the effective operation and location of a teen social event is essential, as it will aid in making any program successful. submitted: Recreation Director KIT/mjl...
